The COVID-19 pandemic has been wreaking havoc around the world and has put governments under severe pressure. In an effort to understand what leaders face during times of crisis, AJC was delighted to host French Prime Minister Manuel Valls (2014-2016), one of Europe's foremost political voices, to discuss responsible leadership and how the past can teach us about how to navigate crises like this.

From the murder of the journalists of Charlie Hebdo, to the killing of Jewish shoppers at a kosher supermarket, to the terrorist attacks of Bataclan in Paris and in Nice, Manuel Valls faced a series of unprecedented acts of terror that hit the country during his tenure as Prime Minister. Manuel Valls has also been one of the most outspoken leaders against antisemitism, famously equating anti-Zionism with antisemitism and declaring that “France would not be France anymore without its Jews.”
