AJC applauds the Illinois State House for passing a bill that will require the State of Illinois to divest pension funds from companies that boycott Israel. The bipartisan measure passed unanimously today, following unanimous adoption by the State Senate last month. Governor Bruce Rauner is expected to sign the bill into law.

“Illinois leaders are united in recognizing a strong Israel-Illinois bond and also that the insidious Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign does not promote peace, but rather seeks to isolate and delegitimize Israel,” said AJC Chicago Regional Director Amy Stoken.

“Overwhelming support in the state legislature for SB1761 is a victory for the state of Illinois and we thank the Illinois General Assembly and the coalition of citizens organizations that mobilized in support of this important bill.”
