AJC Chicago condemned an attack on the Loop Synagogue. Swastikas were placed at the front entrance and one of the synagogue's glass windows was smashed. Authorities have labeled the attack a hate crime. The early Saturday morning vandalism came amidst a rise in incidents of antisemitism across the country.
“The Chicago Jewish community will not be intimidated by antisemitic attacks on a house of worship,” said AJC Chicago Director Amy Stoken. “The right of all religious groups to practice their faith without fear is a fundamental American value. Chicagoans must speak together clearly that the hatred behind this destructive behavior will never be accepted."
AJC Chicago thanks the Chicago Police Department for their efforts to investigate the attack and bring to justice those who are responsible.
