American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism will host a virtual briefing for members of Congress and congressional staff on Thursday, January 27, at 1:00 PM (ET).

The briefing will take place on International Holocaust Remembrance Day and comes amidst a significant increase in antisemitism across the United States, and 12 days after a terrorist held hostage the rabbi and several congregants at Beth Israel Synagogue in Colleyville, Texas.

Holly Huffnagle, AJC’s U.S. Director for Combating Antisemitism will present to the Task Force the findings of AJC’s 2021 State of Antisemitism in America Report and discuss concrete recommendations on addressing the problem. The third annual AJC assessment of antisemitism in the U.S., based on parallel national surveys of the U.S. Jewish and general adult populations, was first released on the third anniversary of the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh.

Key findings of the AJC report include:

-- 24% American Jews has been the target of antisemitism over the past 12 months.

-- 39% of American Jews have changed their behavior out of fear of antisemitism.

-- 41% of Americans have personally witnessed an antisemitic incident in the last 12 months, with 31% having witnessed more than one.

-- 90% of American Jews see antisemitism as a problem in the United States today, but only 60% of the general population do.
