AJC called today’s mass demonstrations across Iran against Israel and the U.S. a stark reminder that Tehran remains implacably wedded to a hateful, fanatical ideology that threatens the region and the world.

“Public demonstrations in Iran on this scale, saturated with hatred of Israel and the United States, do not take place without government sanction,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “Crowds trampling and burning Israeli and American flags, while shouting ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel,’ send a chilling message. They remind us yet again why Iran must be prevented from achieving the capacity to develop and produce nuclear weapons.”

Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day has been held annually on the last Friday of Ramadan in Iran since the Islamic revolution of 1979. This year, in addition to Israel and the U.S., Saudi Arabia was also condemned and threatened, with one banner featuring the Jewish Star of David and the caption, “United States of SaudiIsraeliArabia.”
