When a gunman opened fire on three congregations worshiping inside the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in October, brave souls raced to save lives. At AJC Global Forum 2019 AJC Executive Council members Rick Berkman and Kim Pimley presented these heroes, the first responders of Pittsburgh, and Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz z’l, with the AJC Moral Courage Award. Assistant Chief Mark Pinchalk, Pittsburgh Bureau of Emergency Medical Services accepted the award on behalf of Pittsburgh's first responders. Officer Sean Stumpf, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; Officer Michael Smidga, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; District Chief Justin Sypolt, Pittsburgh Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz's brother-in-law, Sam Kramer, accepted the award.
