As part of AJC’s global diplomatic outreach program, which builds rapport and substantive understandings with global leaders, representatives of AJC New England met with Arnaldo Minuti, Consul General of Italy in Boston. Consul General Minuti is an experienced diplomat who has served as the Head of the Office for International Cooperation Against Global Threats and Counterterrorism of the Directorate General for Political Affairs and Security at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). He has also served in key diplomatic posts in Ethiopia, Canada, Mexico and France.

During the meeting there was an opportunity to discuss Italy’s increasingly close ties with Israel and its neighbors in the Eastern Mediterranean. We also had the opportunity to review proactive measures taken by Italy to fulfill European Union recommendations for combatting antisemitism.  This includes adoption of the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) Working Definition of Antisemitism, appointing a national antisemitism envoy, and launching a national action plan to combat antisemitism.
