AJC is partnering with the Israeli relief agency IsraAid to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to villages in Fiji that were devastated by Cyclone Winston. The IsraAid team on the ground is providing shelter, water, sanitation, and psychosocial support.
“The damage inflicted by Hurricane Winston in Fiji impels us to respond with compassion,” said Shira Loewenberg, director of AJC’s Asia Pacific Institute. “AJC is glad to support the work of IsraAid, which is often one of the first non-governmental groups to reach the site of a disaster, no matter the distance from Israel, and provide urgently needed assistance.”
This is the latest in a long series of cooperative arrangements between AJC and IsraAid to help alleviate humanitarian crises and disasters around the world. Some recent examples were aid to Yazidis and other refugees in the Kurdish region of Iraq, assistance to migrants in Germany and the Greek island of Lesbos, and help for the victims of natural disasters in Japan, Haiti, the Philippines, Peru, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Myanmar.
