AJC Seder Inspires Boston with the #JourneyToFreedom

Boston, Massachusetts – March 19, 2018 - Yesterday, over 400 people attended AJC New England’s 19th annual Diplomats Seder at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Participants included diplomats from 27 countries, civic leaders from across our community and hundreds of people who came to celebrate our collective quest for freedom.

The Passover Seder is a ritual meal that commemorates the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt and serves as an annual occasion to affirm the universal struggle for freedom. The event included testimonies from refugees who came to Boston from South Sudan, Poland and Iraq. Their compelling stories touched the hundreds of people present and affirmed the need to advance democratic values and human rights.   According to AJC New England Director Robert Leikind:

One of the special features of the annual Seder is that it embeds in all who participate a passion for freedom, while also challenging each of us to come to terms with what freedom means for ourselves, our community, and indeed, all of humankind.

Seder attendees had the opportunity to engage with diplomats and representatives from Albania, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Cabo Verde, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Mexico, Morocco, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

AJC President Jonathan Dorfman urged those present to be alert to developing challenges to modern democracy and take personally the need to secure the freedoms we take for granted today for the generations that will follow.

AJC New England is the local gateway to AJC’s global advocacy network that works to safeguard Israel and Jews around the world, and promote democratic values for all.
