President Biden Appoints American Jewish Committee CEO Ted Deutch to Holocaust Memorial Council
President Joe Biden today appointed American Jewish Committee (AJC) CEO Ted Deutch to serve on the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. The council is the governing board of trustees for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
“I thank the President for this tremendous honor,” Deutch said. “The museum does an incredible job of telling one of the most difficult and tragic of stories. But it’s one we all must hear. I look forward to working with other members of the council to ensure the museum has the resources it needs to further its vital mission.”
The council consists of 55 members appointed by the president, as well as five members each from the Senate and House and three ex-officio members from the departments of State, Interior, and Education.
The museum is chaired by Stuart Eizenstat, a former ambassador and presidential aide who helped draft the legislation that created the museum. Eizenstat, an AJC Board of Governors member, also serves as a special adviser to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Holocaust issues.
The museum, which opened in 1993, is a public-private partnership that receives some federal funding for its operations.
