According to the leaders of the BDS movement, it is a movement that “works to end international support for Israel’s oppression of Palestinians and pressure Israel to comply with international law.” According to the American Jewish Committee, “BDS leadership in fact seeks nothing less than the elimination of Israel as a Jewish state.” What does BDS really want? Why do its supporters seem to be all around us locally (on the Seattle City Council; threatening the Port of Seattle; in the Seattle teachers’ union), nationally (in the U.S. House of Representatives), and internationally (in Britain, France, Germany, the UN, etc.)? Does it target Jews as well as Israel? And how have Jewish organizations, the broader community, and governments at every level responded to its presence?
