The Jewish Confederation of Ukraine and AJC, the global Jewish advocacy organization, have signed an association agreement to formalize their longstanding, cooperative relationship.
“For us, it’s natural, if not overdue, that the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine and we join together in common purpose. Ukrainian Jewish leaders have participated in the annual AJC Global Forum—indeed, came in large numbers when Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk addressed us in 2015. And we have visited Kyiv regularly, including opening a temporary office there in 2014, staffed by Dr. Sam Kliger, to show our support for the Maidan Revolution, the only Jewish organization outside Ukraine to do so,” said AJC CEO David Harris.
“We are pleased to enter into this important understanding with the American Jewish Committee,” said Boris Lozhkin, president of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine. “This partnership will serve to enhance the Jewish communities in Ukraine, the United States, and Israel. We look forward to working with the AJC to combat antisemitism, enhance Holocaust remembrance and support the Jewish State.”
In 1991, AJC became the first Jewish organization to call on President George H.W. Bush to recognize the country's independence from Moscow. Since then, it has staunchly supported a free and democratic Ukraine, and its territorial integrity.
This is AJC’s 36th association agreement with Jewish communities around the world.
