Legislative update

On October 11, 2018, AJC New Jersey welcomed Professor Alain Sanders, AJC New Jersey Legislative Advocacy Chair, and George Helmy, State Director for Senator Cory Booker, for a Legislative Advocacy training.

With decades of legislative advocacy experience, Professor Sanders led the group through an in depth look at what it means to be an AJC advocate when walking into the office of a Senator or Representative. He stressed the importance of being thoroughly prepared for the meeting and being confident in your convictions.

George Helmy offered us a unique, insider’s perspective on what is most and least effective when meeting with a member of Congress. Mr. Helmy focused on the importance of relationship building and emphasized that we are all in the “relationship business.” He commended AJC New Jersey and our ability to connect with the Senator’s staff members regarding important issues.

The evening left us feeling inspired and prepared to be effective advocates for the Jewish people!
