2019-06-04 Capitol Hill Lobbying During Global Forum

On June 4, 2019, during Global Forum, AJC Los Angeles leaders took their advocacy to the halls of Congress. Our leaders met with the offices of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Congressman Harley Rouda (D-CA), Congressman Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), Congressman Juan Vargas (D-CA).

We urged Congress to take firm steps to fight hatred and bigotry. In the Senate, we urged cosponsorship of the Protecting Faith-Based and Nonprofit Organizations from Terrorism Act to authorize $75 million annually for the Department of Homeland Security’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program to provide synagogues, religious and cultural institutions, and nonprofits with resources and training to secure their facilities against potential domestic terror attacks.

In the House, we urged members to join the newly-established Black Jewish Congressional Caucus and the Bipartisan Taskforce for Combating Antisemitism.

We advocated for Israel’s security. In the House and Senate, we urged cosponsorship of the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act to provide tools to support a comprehensive U.S. strategy in the region that strengthens regional energy partnerships, ends the arms embargo on Cyprus, and holds Turkey accountable.
