AJC New England Announces Annual Co-Existence Award
Governor Deval Patrick to be First Recipient

(Boston, MA) October 28, 2016 – AJC New England will honor former Governor Deval Patrick with its inaugural Co-Existence Award at its Annual Celebration on Monday, November 14, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at The Artists for Humanity Epicenter in Boston.

“Gov. Patrick has devoted his life to building and supporting a society where the rights of all citizens are protected and where we work together to forge ethnic, religious and racial understanding.  He has given voice to the values we champion,” said Robert Leikind, Director, AJC New England.

The Co-Existence Award was established to celebrate leaders who have dedicated their lives to advancing a collective commitment to co-existence, and contribute to a more peaceful, pluralistic, and democratic world. The award will be presented at AJC New England’s Annual Celebration, which  will recognize AJC’s achievements, introduce AJC to friends and neighbors from other communities and thank those who have made AJC’s work possible.

AJC New England also will honor outgoing President Mel Shuman for his three years of extraordinary service.  Jonathan Dorfman will be ushered in as the organization’s new President.

“AJC understands that one of the defining challenges of our time is the struggle to advance co-existence among diverse peoples,” said Shuman. “The Co-Existence Award aims to honor those individuals who show leadership and have taken on the challenge to secure a world where co-existence and respect for others is prized. I feel fortunate to have led an organization that values and recognizes leaders who advance these principles, especially at a time when conflicts are fueled by ethnic, racial, and religious differences.”

Incoming AJC New England President Dorfman said, “I am honored to take the helm as President of this outstanding organization, and look forward to continuing our efforts in promoting human rights, democratic values, and the security of Israel and the Jewish people.”
