AJC Seattle held its annual Unity Seder virtually this year with over 200 participants, with many leaders of multifaith and ethnic communities, elected officials, representatives, and diplomats from 14 countries, as well as members of the Jewish community. The seder was beautifully led by Rabbi James Mirel, long-time community leader, and AJC Board Member. Our guests asked the Four Questions in their native languages: German, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish.
“We are proud to hold this Seder annually with the explicit intent of bringing a sense of unity, commonality, tolerance, and understanding to our diverse communities. It is sorely needed in today’s tumultuous, fractured, troubled world which moves at such a fast pace, leaving little room to reflect on our common humanity” said Murray Lee, AJC Board President.
We were privileged to be joined by the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Seattle, Valeriy Goloborodko. He spoke of the yearning for freedom, the brave fight, and the resistance undertaken by the Ukrainian people. His impactful, heartfelt message included powerful analogies of the Passover story woven throughout.
Much gratitude to AJC Board member and long-time Seattle Jewish community leader, Rabbi James Mirel, for leading to service and to Chava and Judah Mirel, who did us the honor of singing traditional Passover songs. Thanks also to renowned tenor Kenneth Gayle, who joined us for the second year to sing his beautiful renditions of traditional Jewish songs and songs about freedom.
