AJC Chief Executive Officer David Harris was invited to address a high-level symposium at the UN this morning on “Synergies along the Silk Road for Agenda 2030.”

The event, which took place at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) chamber, was co-sponsored by the Missions to the United Nations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey; the International Turkic Council; the Caspian Strategy Institute; Turksoy (the International Organization of Turkic Culture); and the International Turkic Academy.

Permanent Representatives of more than 20 countries attended the symposium. ECOSOC President and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the UN Oh Joon delivered opening remarks. Additional speakers shared substantive remarks on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan and the Prime Minister of Turkey.

“Agenda 2030 seeks to fight against the forces that struck in Lahore, Brussels, and beyond. These radicals seek to divide humanity, while we stand together in our determination to unite humanity,” said Harris, during the symposium's opening session. “At AJC, with institutes focused on Europe, Africa, and Asia, we are determined to be part of the solution, which is precisely what the envisioned Silk Road connecting Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa represents. It underscores the importance of the 'five P's’: peace, people, the planet, partnerships, and prosperity."
