AJC hailed the adoption by Massachusetts of an internationally recognized definition of antisemitism, as Gov. Charlie Baker affirmed the Commonwealth’s commitment to combat all forms of hate. Baker today issued a proclamation endorsing the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Working Definition of Antisemitism, which AJC had a crucial role in drafting.

AJC CEO David Harris, responding to a Wall Street Journal essay by Israeli historian Benny Morris, points out that the mission of UNRWA, set up in 1949, made no reference to refugee resettlement, and its definition of a Palestinian refugee included future generations without any time limit. Question is why Unrwa is not under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

As Muslims and Jews, we stand united in our commitment to promote solidarity, understanding and friendship among our faith communities. Antisemitism and anti-Muslim bigotry are more than attacks on our faiths and religious freedom. Ultimately, they are assaults on the fabric and fiber of democratic societies. Domestic terrorism and targeted violence threaten the safety of all Americans. Each of us has a role to play in keeping our communities safe. This was the impetus behind the American Jewish Committee working with Muslim and Jewish groups to form the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council (MJAC). In 2017, we created an MJAC of South Florida (MJAC).

There are as many as 300,000 Jews living in Ukraine today. Whatever happens in the weeks and months ahead, they know they don’t have to face the prospect of homelessness. And that’s because, thankfully, Israel is a reality.
